Gracie Gold wins National title and a place on the US Olympic Team

After watching teenage figure skater Gracie Gold win her first national championship in a landslide, NBC Olympic analyst Scott Hamilton believes she has the ability to live up to her last name at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

"Realistically,  I think she has a chance for a medal,'' Hamilton told Matt Lauer on TODAY Monday. "We are going to be in Russia against a couple of strong Russian skaters, but she's got everything. She's got the triple-triple combination, [and] she's got great presence on the ice. The new coaching relationship she has with Frank Carroll has given her another level of maturity, so she's doing everything right to put herself in position to medal at Sochi." Gold, 18, was the headliner at the U.S. National Championships in Boston on Saturday, defeating runner-up Polina Edmunds, 15, by 18 points. Gold, who will appear live on TODAY Tuesday, jumped to the top of the podium after a second-place finish at last year's national championships, while Edmunds earned a spot on the Olympic team with her second-place finish. However, there was controversy over the third and final selection to the U.S. women's figure skating team for Sochi, which was announced on Sunday.

Gracie trained at the Glacier up until the fall of last year with Alex Ouriachev and after a long and successful partnership which bought her the Junior National title and a silver medal at Nationals last year she decided to make the move to California.

Glacier Skaters win medals at Nationals

What a fantastic first showing it was for Sophia Pearson and Keenan Prochnow in Boston last week.

In their first National Championships, 14 year old Sophia and 16 year old Keenan clinched the bronze medal in the Intermediate Pair Skating Championships. This success came on the back of winning the gold medal in the Midwestern Sectional Championships 6 weeks ago.

They skated a flawless short program to the music of  Kung Fu Panda which got them into 4th place, however the scores were very tight. Then with another impeccable skate in the long to the music of  The Holiday they pulled themselves up to 3rd place. It was an amazing achievement for this young team who are improving at a rapid rate of knots! We wish them every success for next season as they embark on new challenges.
