Chris's Olympic Diary
Day Thirteen
Monday 20th February

An easier day today, no speed skating and just the Free Dance later this evening, so before I talk about the day how about some pictures as promised:

This is a shot of the Palavela from side that I enter from. It has roof just like the one the minis drove up in the original version of the Italian Job. It’s a wonderful arena with real Italian flare.

These are the commentary positions. The entire length of the rink on one side is full of commentary booths. Ours is just out of picture on the right hand side, we have a good position behind the judges just off centre.

Here’s the dynamic duo! This shot was taken just before the ice Dance started by my mate Hendryk. We sit right next door to the Germans who I am sure you can hear from time to time.

So there you are some behind the scenes shots of the figure skating in Turino, or is it Turin?

So when I got up you guessed it………….. Scrambled egg and yogurt! I have had scrambled egg on its own, scrambled egg on toast, scrambled egg beside toast, scrambled egg under toast even scrambled egg around toast. Actually I don’t care if I never have scrambled egg again!

After breakfast I got the bus to the IBC and wrote two day of my diary, its great to have some positive feedback from you all. Actually I met one of the joint editors of International Figure Skater and I think they may publish it!

So to the Free Dance, none of us really knew what to expect after the commotion of the original, I would imagine that you all felt the same. We didn’t commentate on the early group so I got the chance to take a couple of snaps:

Not bad for an amateur! I got a telling off from the security because you are not supposed to take pictures from the commentary positions. They have all gone a bit power crazy here, Simon was told he couldn’t have his water at the commentary position, which is crazy because he needs the lubrication to keep his mouth working!

Well it was a much better evening than the original, and the judging was better too. We all thought the French were good and unlucky not to be on the podium. I do think the Ukrainians put together a program that was perfect for the new system.

Well here is a picture of the podium that I took just as we went off air:

It was quite a late night when we got back so we just had a glass of wine at the village then off to bed………………
