Chris Howarth

Glacier Skating Academy Director 
Chris is a former British figure skating champion and competed in the 1980 Winter Olympics for Great Britain. He has over 26 years coaching experience combined with a vast management background and has just completed a term working for the Dutch figure Skating Association as their technical coordinator. Chris is a BITA Master rated coach and has his level 4 NCCP coaching certificate. In addition to his on ice achievements Chris was also part of the team that designed the revolutionary Freedom blade that is worn by Michael Weiss.

Chris Heiser

Learn to Skate Director of Glacier Skating Academy
Chris was the founder of the Starlights Synchronized Skating Teams in 1998. She was the director of the Starlights from 1998-2013 and is currently the Assistant Director. Chris has 33 years of Coaching experience of all ages and levels. She has coached National and International Teams as well individual competitors at qualifying, non-qualifying and Junior National competitions. Chris Specializes in Moves in the Field.

Alissa Brown

Staff Professional
 
Alissa  began skating at the age of five and continued to skate competitively through her senior year of college.  She has been coaching for over ten years and adores working with kids and teens to achieve their goals. Alissa attended Olympic training centers to improve her own skills when she was competitive which helped her  better understand what it takes to be successful in this sport. She choreographs and creates programs to take kids to competitions.

Deb Jenssen

Staff Professional
 
Deb has been coaching since 1990. She teaches Basic Skills, Free Skate and Special Skater and is Trained in Freestyle, Figures and Synchronized skating. Deb is a certified Special Olympics coach and certified Learn to Skate USA instructor and also a member of Learn to Skate USA.

Beverley Howarth

Staff Professional

Beverley started skating age 4. She represented G.B in junior and senior international competition from age 14. She the Bronze medalist at the Senior British Ladies Championships in 1980. Beverley has been coaching for 32 years in all disciplines except pairs. She has 22 years coaching experience in the U.K and 10 years here at the Glacier and coaches all levels from beginner to senior level competitors and adults. Last few years focused a little more on spins, moves and choreography.

Erin Hussey

Staff Professional

Erin grew up in Boston, MA and has been skating since the age of 3. She has over 14 years of experience teaching USFSA Basic Skills throughout the Boston and Nashville areas. Erin has experience teaching both group and private lessons to students of all ages and ability levels. In addition, she has several years of experience choreographing both show and competitive programs. Erin recently relocated to the Chicagoland area and is excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the Glacier Ice Arena community.

 

Connie Lasse

Staff Professional

Connie began coaching at Glacier since rink opened in November 1999, which has been 17 years. She teaches all levels and all ages. Connie also choreographs routines for skaters for competitions and for ice shows. She skated competitively and performed in many ice shows. She is a former ice dancer and synchronized team skater.


Karen Kay Lavris

Staff Professional

Karen Kay has over 30 years experience teaching young and old.  She skated in many shows and her one favorite was Ice Capades.  Karen has always believed that dance and ballet is a match to figure skating. Her enthusiastic approach has taught them to skate from the heart and love the sport of figure skating.


Lauren Maday

Staff Professional

Lauren has over 25 years skating experience 12 of which were in Synchronized Skating Teams. Lauren was a member of 3 National Championship teams and skated for 4 seasons internationally where her highlight was competing at the World Challenge Cup for juniors. Lauren has been coaching at the Glacier since 2006 and specializes in Tots through Basic levels.

Michelle Mizock

Staff Professional

MIchelle is proud to be part of Glacier's coaching staff since 2003 She specializes in levels Tot - Basic 4, and Adults. She has over 17 years teaching young children, She is an Adult competitive skater and a member USFS. Her goal is to work with skaters to help them achieve their potential in a productive, safe, and enthusiastic manner.

Denise Mueller

Denise has Been coaching  over 25 years at numerous Chicagoland rinks and was a competitive ISI skater. She attended skating camps at Northbrook with John Mischa Petevich and Donald Jackson. Denise is a competitive skating coach and attends PSA seminars for continuing education in figure skating which is constantly evolving.

Alexander Ouriashev

Alex, a 2x Ukrainian Senior Mens Champion & international competitor, he holds a BA in Figure Skating & Choreography. A regional, sectional, & national coach, Alex offers freestyle, pairs, moves in the field, & choreography. He has over 26 years of teaching experience. Member of USFSA, ISI & PSA.

 

Elona Popova

Staff Professional

Elona has thirteen years experience with the St Petersburg Ballet on Ice and Holiday on Ice. She competed internationally for Russia and now coaches skaters of all levels.

 


Tom Reif

Staff Professional

 

Tom has over eight years experience of coaching Learn to Skate and has two years experience of coaching individual lessons in Ice Dance. He is a three time Adult National competitor.


Sue Schmitt

Staff Professional

Sue has over 40 years coaching experience specializing in field moves, freestyle and adult skating. She has worked with several synchronized skating teams and is a real asset to Team Encore. Sue is a PSA rated coach and a former senior ladies competitor, she also has 17 years experience as a Skating Director and Administrator.
